Adidas to Bring Exercise App to Android

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on February 14, 2011

PCWorld, Feb 15, 2011- The Adidas miCoach app will be available on Android in late April, Adidas announced at Mobile World Congress on Monday.

The miCoach app turns an Android-based smartphone into a personal coach, according to Adidas. Its features include pace-triggered voice coaching, personalized and sports-specific training plans, workout calendar, and workout feedback.

The personalized sports-specific training plans allow users to adopt their training plans according to the sport they practice, including football players that want to be faster and stronger. It also allows for different running plans, depending on whether the user wants to lose weight or train for a marathon. The pace triggered voice coaching will tell users how fast to run to reach their goals and how much further they have to go during a session.

The company didn’t detail which version of Android will be compatible with the miCoach application. In August, the application was launched for the iPhone and BlackBerry, and has, so far, racked up about one million downloads, Adidas said.

Five Best Android Newsreaders

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on January 23, 2011

Lifehacker, Jan 23, 2011- Earlier this week we asked you to share your favorite Android newsreader. We tallied up the nominations, and now we’re back to share the five most popular readers.

Google Reader (Free)

Google Reader, the long awaited official app from Google, took its sweet time getting to the Market. None the less, despite being on the Market for less than two months it’s one of the most popular RSS apps. It syncs seamlessly with multiple accounts and gives you access to the full subscription features like starring, marking as read, sharing, and more. Google Reader also includes some neat navigational features like the ability to use your phone’s volume rocker switch as a next and previous key for your RSS feeds.

FeedR ($1.99)

Many RSS tools piggyback on Google Reader. FeedR supports synchronization with Google Reader if you’re a fan but also supports plain old feed importing if you like to manually manage your feed and keep Google out of the loop. You can search and preview your feeds, read offline with images thanks to local caching, easily switch between the mobile and full view for articles, and more. FeedR’s design places emphasis on transparency; the UI stays out of your way which frees up valuable screen space for reading.

Pulse (Free)

Pulse was a popular contender in our iOS newsreader Hive Five thanks to its sleek layout and photo-centric swipe based reading style. The interface translates surprisingly well to Android phones. Pulse is the most social of the newsreaders in this roundup and includes the ability to stream your Facebook feed right along side your news feeds as well as share stories via Facebook, Twitter, , and email. You can start fresh with Pulse or import all your feeds from Google Reader.

NewsRob (Basic: Free/Pro:$6.84)

NewsRob syncs your Google Reader account to your Android phone for real-time and offline reading. NewsRob includes system wide notifications of new content, caching to the SD card for smoother reading, and the ability to mark as read, favorite, and edit feed categories. Upgrading to the premium version removes the ads and enables article sharing and article notation.

gReader (Basic: Free, Pro: $5.74)

Long before Google released and official read app, gReader was filling the niche. gReader sports two-way synchronization with Google Reader, offline reading, direct editing of your feed and folder settings from gReader, support for local caching and saving media from your feeds to your phone, offline reading, system notifications, and easy sharing via email, Twitter, Facebook, and more. The premium version removes the ads, and activates additional features like themes and widgets.

Fewer than 0.5% of Google Android users run Gingerbread, while 51.8% are on Froyo

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on January 18, 2011

Los Angeles Times, January 18, 2011- Only 0.4% of Android users are  running the newest version of Google’s mobile operating system, known  as Gingerbread.

That’s a pretty low number considering the millions of Android smart  phones and tablets that have been sold. But the number, released on  Google’s Android Developers website, makes a bit of sense considering  Gingerbread — also known as Android 2.3 — is available only on the  Nexus S smart phone from Samsung, and sold only in Best Buy stores.

Froyo, the build of Android released before Gingerbread, accounts for  51.8% of Android phones in operation, Google said.

And Eclair, the version before Froyo, is run on 35.2% of Android  devices, the Website reported. Android users running version 1.5 and  1.6 of the OS make up 12.6% of the phones in operation, Google said.

The update rates for Android users is held back, in part, by the fact  that Wireless carriers and not Google control when a specific handset  can get a new version of Android. Many older handsets have yet to  recieve software updates and likely won’t.

On the other hand, Apple’s iOS is pushed to iPhones by the company  itself and not by AT&T.

CEO David Lieb of app maker Bump Technologies said last week that  89.7% of iPhone and iPad customers are on iOS 4, a far larger  percentage than any one release of Android.

Mobile Apps for Android and Phone 7 Are Growing

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on December 30, 2010

NewsFactor.com, December 30, 2010- From 30,000 mobile apps in March to about 150,000 now, Google’s Android Market has grown quickly. Meantime, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 has soared to 5,000 apps in just two months, growing at a faster pace than Android. Both are playing catch-up to Apple’s App Store with 300,000 apps, though Microsoft can leverage its Xbox gaming franchise.

Industry observers report that the number of applications available for Android Android training smartphones has risen dramatically since October, when more than 100,000 apps were available from the Android Market. According to the AndroLib web site, which tracks Android metrics, Google ‘s mobile  platform gained more than 24,000 new apps in November and 26,000 this month.

Apple’s App Store remains the market leader with 300,000 apps — including more than 40,000 native iPad offerings. But the snowball effect driving Android app development is remarkable, considering that the Android Market Android training only offered 30,000 apps in March and 70,000 by mid-July.

On the other hand, Windows Phone 7 reached 5,000 apps in just two months, while Android Android training took almost three times as long to reach the same level, noted Al Hilwa, director of applications development software at IDC. “For a company that just a few months ago was nearing also-ran status in mobile, having 5,000 apps and 10 devices in 30 countries is by no means a trivial achievement,” he said.

Sure-Footed Execution

The reality for developers is that they want to be on all major platforms, Hilwa noted. “They want to reach everyone who is interested in their app, [and] the only way to do that is to [be on] all the major app platforms [covering] many devices, carriers or geographies,” Hilwa said.

Still, launching a successful mobile platform presents a chicken-and-egg dilemma, where growth in device adoption is driven by the availability of apps, Hilwa observed. “App ecosystems are key in bootstrapping platforms into the market,” he said. “Without them, there is really no platform.”

Hilwa believes Microsoft ‘s Windows Phone 7 platform has what it takes to become a successful smartphone OS player. “WP7 appears to be putting on about 2,000 apps a month, which is a really healthy clip for this stage of the game,” Hilwa explained.

To be sure, Google followed a more gradual and tentative launch for Android Android training compared to Microsoft’s well-orchestrated big-bang approach, Hilwa wrote in a new IDC report. “But it is precisely the broad launch and sure-footed execution that allows us to predict long-term success for WP7 at this early stage,” he explained.

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on December 29, 2010

Users can snap a photo of the damage and immediately upload it to notify City crews for service.

The app can be downloaded from the Android Market Android training for iPhone App Store, or used by visiting GoLBCity.com. Report: Android Market Tops 200K Apps

Posted by weinabeyondsoft on December 28, 2010

PCMAC.COM, Dec. 28, 2010- In a matter of months, it appears that Google’s Android Market has doubled in size. Numbers from AndroLib.com show more than 200,000 apps available in the store as of Tuesday.

At the end of October, Google confirmed that the Android Android training Market had surpassed the 100,000 app milestone. Google has yet to confirm the latest numbers.

However, Apple’s App store is still the largest source of apps, with more than 300,000 applications in its catalog. But with more than 2.5 billion apps downloaded from the Android Android training Market, said AndroidLib.com, it seems Google’s platform is gaining ground.

The Android Android training Market debuted in October 2008 with just 34 apps and nine games. Google started accepting priced applications from developers in the U.S. and the U.K. in February 2009. The very next month, the Android Market reportedly had 2,300 apps, and that number surged to 20,000 by the end of the year.

2010 has seen huge growth for the store, as well as the platform itself. In April, the Android Android training Market hit 38,000 apps. In July, Google contradicted AndroLib’s reports of 100,000 apps in the store and said that the official figure was closer to 70,000.

Comparatively, Apple’s App Store was launched in July 2008 and reached 100,000 apps in November 2009; several months after it achieved 1.5 billion downloads.

Google vice president of engineering announced earlier this month that 300,000 Android devices are activated every day. His announcement came just months after the company’s chief executive Eric Schmidt said that Google was activating 200,000 Android devices daily.

In November, comScore reported that Android had 14.9 percent of the global market, a 6.5 percent increase from the October statistics. In the U.S., two separate studies have said that Android was ahead of both RIM and Apple in the last quarter, with 44 percent of the market.

Posted by BeyondSoftConsulting on May 21, 2010

The mobile revolution is here and now.  With iPhone 4.0 and iPad, Apple Inc, the one time moribund and diminutive competitor to the Wintel alliance, owes the phenomenal success to its ubiquitous AppStore that hosts close to a quarter million mobile apps with billions of download to date.  With the iPad/GPad, Google/Apple TV, Chrome OS, mobile apps are also expanding into new territories, which app developers had never experienced before.

Xeeku Twiter client for Andorid shortlisted as best free twitter app by M

Posted by BeyondSoftConsulting on October 26, 2009

Xeeku Twitter is a full featured free Twitter client which is most elegant and refreshing among all Twitter clients. It is shortlisted as best free twitter app by  Matt Silverman at Meshable
Summary of the review:

Advanced tweet manipulation. Selecting a tweet allows you to reply, retweet, go to a user profile, go to a mentioned profile, go to links, and search hashtags. These options are available throughout. Another handy choice is “Gmail Share” which will paste the tweet URL into a new e-mail message for sharing with your Twitterphobic friends and family.

Other smart features include photo uploadtrending topics@reply notifications, andsaved searches.

Interesting features. Xeeku has some unique functions that I haven’t seen in other apps:

By selecting Recent Conversation from any user’s tweets, Xeeku will line up the @replies you’ve been trading with that user so you can read them in succession.

Clicking on a user’s profile will load their timeline and stats, as well as a “friend drawer” which shows the photos of the users they follow, much like a profile page on Twitter.

Selecting “Gallery” from the main menu loads a random selection of “Featured User Photos” from twitter.xeeku.com. This is a fun way to see what users are uploading and find interesting people to follow.

Find out more at:

1. Mobilized introduction web page: http://twitter.xeeku.com/mini_intro.php

3. Swsocial.com “Xeeku Twitter Review!” http://www.swsocial.com 4. AndroidGuys.com “App Review: Xeeku Twitter”
XeekuTwitter is a full featured Twitter client which is most elegant and refreshing among all Twitter clients.
